Behind Bars - Drake, 5AM In Toronto

There is not one motherfucker out there that will tell you that this song ain’t mean. Drake fucks up the whole balance of things and shuts the game down once again. ‘5AM In Toronto’ is a sequel to 2009’s ‘9AM In Dallas’. These freestyles (no, not off the dome) just allow Drake to vent about everything that has been going on in his life, and the more recent one, Drake sounds angry.

So Drake starts shit off with pretty much proclaiming that he is the hottest in the game. And to be honest, he’s pretty right. See, this song came out in February, about a month after he dropped ‘Started From The Bottom’ and Drake was back in his stride and this was the his mark that told everyone to watch out. “They need me more than they hate me” and the thing is, that’s pretty true. Drake was still on top in 2012, not having released one song himself, only features.

Drake then goes on to talk about an all too familiar topic. Everyone knows about his beef with C Breezy, so it comes no surprise that he took some shots at Chris (we like to assume). Drake had his thing with Rihanna after Brown went all mental and beat the shit outta her but that didn’t last too long. Soon after, Rihanna thought it’d be a good idea to get back with Chris Brown. Obviously, that wasn’t going to last too long either. But yeah... “Where you think she at when she ain’t with you?”

And then he goes on to talk address, what we thought was his beef with TheWeeknd. (We know now that they’re best buds again, but it didn’t seem so obvious at the time.) Drake put TheWeeknd on. If it wasn’t for him Abel wouldn’t be close to where he is now... Selling out The O2 Arena and shit. But then Abel decided to go his own way and not sign to OVO, which I guess got Drake mad. And rightly so because he did do quite a bit for that kid. “Guess it’s funny how money can make change out of niggas.”

And then he goes on to finish the song, pretty much saying that hip hop is nothing without him. Everyone needs him in the game. Whether it’s Migos to make their unknown Versace a hit, or whether it’s Kendrick to start a little war. Drake is the centre of hip hop, and he is taking the throne. “On my King James shit”
