Money controls a man. If you got money you gotta show it. Even Cole himself has to conform to the norm in the rap game. Everyone be showing their shit to make everyone else jealous. It’s sort of regular to splurge in hip hop, even if you don’t have the money. But J. Cole has never been of that flashy lifestyle, unlike his mentor, Jay-Z. And this song just shows exactly what he thinks about this flashy lifestyle. Sure he is a part of it, just like everyone else, but he also knows that he is actually against it. Well, not against it, but has different views on it. Some rappers be wearing iced out Jesus pieces to show how their life’s have changed so much and it’s pretty much saying “fuck you” to all the haters. But Cole doesn’t need any of that. Instead what Cole needs is a nice house to live his comfortable life in. The production is standout again. I quite like a little ladder of sounds at the end of each bar that kind of mimics the sparkle of jewels.
