What the fuck happened last week?
Kanye West
Kanye has been hitting our front pages for quite some time now. Whether it
be for the hype of his album, scuffles with that paparazzi or for his
critically acclaimed Yeezus tour. So Kanye thought he’d talk to some kids in
Boston before his show. He headed down to the Harvard Graduate School of Design and shared his opinion on the
state of design in today’s world. It
is quite evident that he has a passion for this shit and not only is he trying
to set new standards for everyone and everything, but he is also trying to get
other people on that same level. Check it out.
He also took some time out and spoke with Ellen (as well as
the rest of the world). Yes. Bound 2. It has a video. Everyone has their
opinion. But I’d like to leave you with an interesting point of view. I’m not quite sure who it was that put their
point forward, but I really like where they were going with this.
Trinidad
James
So old TJ made some comments about the state of New York rap a
couple weeks ago at a little show held by Converse. He basically said that New
York hip hop is not run by New York artists. Instead, shit is run by Southern
artists, especially ATL. He has got a point though, Future runs New York and
there isn’t enough light on the young cats coming up in New York. Radio DJ’s
gotta start hitting that New York fire again! Check out his response to all the
commotion.
Maino called up Trinidad sounding pissed as fuck. Understandably
Maino wanted an apology, not to him, but to his city. He felt as if Trinidad
came about it the wrong way and felt insulted by his comments.
Pharrell
Williams
Yes. You heard correct. Pharrell Williams made a 24 hour video. Just
incase you haven’t yet heard, it’s called ‘ Happy’. I am not going to lie to
you. There is no music video which matches a song title quite like this one
does. Pharrell takes his creativity to a new level with such an out there
visual. If you got a day to spare, go check it out www.24hoursofhappy.com
Eminem
With Eminem hitting platinum, that makes three. Close to 800K first
week and 7 days later, Mr. Marshal crosses the 1 million mark. I think the days
of going platinum in 7 days are officially behind us (unless you come out with
a brilliant ‘Let me make some more money’ marketing scheme *Cough*Jay*Cough*).
Eminem is pretty much the biggest name in hip hop. The Marshal Mathers LP 2 not
going platinum first time around was clearly a sign. But you never know,
something special might pop up.
T.I.
The King of the South has finally got what he was looking for.
Remember months ago when TI was demanding something like $85 million for a
record deal? Well he has finally settled with Columbia Records. Of course with
Tip, Columbia also got the whole of Grand Hustle, which I guess is a bonus. I’m
not quite sure what he has settled for, but I’m sure he’ll do just fine.
