Are we on track?

Since this is the area you hit up to find out about the new era of hip-hop music, I thought I’d talk about what they young guns are doing. And who better to start with than the man of the year, Mr. Drizzy Drake Rogers.

So what has Aubrey done for hip hop music of late? I guess a better question would be to ask what he hasn’t done. Drake kick started off 2013 with the highly infectious ‘Started From The Bottom’. Now I do not care whether you fuck with it or not, Drake came back with a bang. There wasn’t one motherfucker not talking about this. Drake took Mike Zombie’s beat and turned it into an anthem which was desperately needed.

Oh, but Drake is too soft! He sings too much! He should just rap! Don’t get it twisted guys, Drake fucked everything up with the release of ‘5 AM In Toronto’. Acting a sequel to ‘9 AM In Dallas’ Drake shut everyone up. Drake was spitting like a raw MC warning everyone that he is taking the throne. And it was quite evident too, with only featured verses across the whole of 2012, Drake still kept as a relevant artist. I guess every song does sound like Drake featuring Drake. But not to worry, he didn’t forget about all of us that love his singing. Drake also dropped ‘Girls Love Beyoncé’ which just highlighted how versatile this young kid from TO really is.

Everything simmered down.  A few months went by and Drake kept quiet. We were told that we’d have an album for the summer and that was about it. Clearly we were all a bit let down, so Drake thought he’d fuck shit up for a third time. It was then night of J. Cole’s Dollar And A Dream NY show (I’ll get to that later) and Drake was feelin’ himself. Out of nowhere the internet explodes with four new Drake songs. Well.  2 songs and 2 features. He pretty much showcased everything he could do. Singing, rapping and making hits. Let’s not forget that ‘Versace’ fuelled clubs throughout the summer. Jodeci Freestyle was something you just wanted to listen to. The song was great. It brought a vibe to you that songs just don’t seem to give anymore.

So that was enough to keep Drake’s fire burning long and hot for the summer. About half way through Drake let havoc on the world once again, with the release of ‘All Me’ and ‘Hold On We’re Going Home’. Now I don’t want to turn this into a musical breakdown, but let’s just say that Drake knows how to make hits and keep it real at the same time. A month later and we were given a masterpiece now known as ‘Nothing Was The Same’. Drake really put work in for his Junior album and fans and critics alike adore him for it.

Drake really has had one hell of a 2013, and word on road is that he’s got 4 more tracks to hit us before the year’s end. Lil Wayne really hit jackpot when coming across Drake. This guy is the hottest rapper out and with a skill set like this he is bound to last a long time. I think Hip Hop is in good hands with this Degrassi graduate. So yes. We are on track.
